Michael Dunlop Secures 28th Isle of Man TT Victory
On Saturday afternoon, Michael Dunlop took his 28th victory at the iconic Isle of Man TT Races, emerging triumphant in the Monster Energy Supersport TT Race 2 by a narrow margin of just under four seconds. The MD Racing Yamaha rider claimed his sixth successive Supersport win and 13th in total, solidifying his dominance in the discipline.
The Podium
- Dean Harrison, representing Honda Racing UK, pushed Dunlop to the limit, ultimately settling for second place.
- Davey Todd secured a well-deserved third spot on the podium with the Powertoolmate Ducati team.
The Race
Following a brief delay due to scattered showers around the Mountain Course, the two-lap race commenced at 13:00. Dunlop seized the early initiative, leading Todd by a slender 0.558 seconds at Glen Helen on the first lap. James Hillier, riding for Bournemouth Kawasaki, trailed by just 0.136 seconds in third, with Harrison a mere 0.3 seconds behind in fourth.
As the riders navigated the first run to Ballaugh, Dunlop maintained his lead, with Todd narrowing the gap to 0.8 seconds. Harrison overhauled Hillier for third, while Peter Hickman, competing for Trooper Triumph by PHR Performance, was struggling to keep pace in fifth.
Notable Performances
- Mike Browne and Michael Evans showcased impressive form in eighth and ninth, respectively.
- Dominic Herbertson was forced to retire the Burrows Engineering/RK Racing Yamaha shortly afterwards at Kerromoar.
- Joe Yeardsley set a new personal best lap of the Mountain Course at 123.268mph.
- Craig Neve showed resilience in his first ride since a qualifying spill.
- Loris Majcan impressed, taking 34th with a strong final lap of 118.053mph.
The competition remained fierce, with Dunlop ultimately taking the win by a margin of 3.889 seconds ahead of Harrison. Todd secured a hard-fought third place, 2.34 seconds behind Harrison.
