Hickman Dominates Superbike TT Race with Sixth Career Victory
The Isle of Man TT witnessed a commanding performance by Peter Hickman as he secured his sixth career victory in the Superbike race. Riding the all-new BMW M1000RR, Hickman led the race from the first sector split on the opening lap of the six-lap event.
Starting from the number one position, John McGuinness headed the field to begin his 100th TT race aboard his Honda. However, Hickman, riding for the FHO Racing team, quickly seized the lead as he passed McGuinness through the Glen Helen section.
Hickman continued to extend his advantage throughout the race, with Dean Harrison on the DAO Racing Kawasaki and Connor Cummins on the Padgetts Honda trading second place. By the second lap, Hickman’s lead had grown to over 11 seconds, as Davey Todd, Cummins’ teammate, retired due to a delaminated rear Dunlop tyre.
As the race progressed, Hickman’s dominance became increasingly apparent. His lead over Harrison swelled to over 36 seconds by the end of the fourth lap, and he cruised to victory with a final margin of 39.199 seconds. Harrison held onto second place, with Michael Dunlop completing the podium on the Hawk Racing Suzuki.
“The victory further solidifies his status as one of the top road racing contenders and adds to his growing collection of TT triumphs.”
Ian Hutchinson finished fourth on his TAS Racing BMW, while John McGuinness rounded out the top five. Rookie Glenn Irwin impressed with an eighth-place finish, setting the fastest ever lap for a newcomer at 129.85mph.
