Cycling Enthusiasts Eagerly Await Thrilling TT 2023 Event
Cycling enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the upcoming TT 2023 event, as the practice sessions have already delivered some remarkable performances. In a thrilling development, Michael Dunlop, riding his Hawk Racing Honda, has set the fastest-ever unofficial lap record around the iconic 37.75-mile mountain course, clocking an astonishing speed of 135.531 mph.
This impressive feat surpasses the previous official lap record of 135.452 mph set by Peter Hickman in the 2018 Senior race. Hickman, however, remains a force to be reckoned with, having posted a 133.7 mph effort on Thursday evening from a standing start, and a 134.910 mph lap on Friday, which came close to his own record.
The road racing news has been further electrified by the intense competition among the top riders. On Friday afternoon, Dunlop set the pace from a standing start in the pitlane at 134.270 mph, with Hickman trailing close behind at 133.195 mph on his FHO Racing BMW. Dean Harrison of DAO Racing secured third place with a 134.216 mph lap, while Padgetts Honda’s Davey Todd and John McGuinness of the factory Honda team rounded out the top five.
In the Supersport and Supertwins classes, Dunlop continued his dominance, setting the fastest lap in the Supersport class at 127.510 mph on his MD Racing Yamaha, and an unofficial lap record in the Supertwins class at 123.474 mph.
The Sidecars also took to the course, with the Peter Founds/Jevan Walmsley outfit leading the way with a 117.807 mph lap. However, this still falls short of the best Sidecar lap of practice week set by the Birchall brothers at 119.474 mph, an unofficial lap record.
