Davey Todd Secures Maiden TT Win in Superstock Race
Davey Todd achieved his first TT victory earlier this week, claiming the top spot in the only Superstock race of the 2024 event aboard his TAS Racing BMW. This marks TAS Racing’s first Senior TT win since 2004.
Initially, Peter Hickman, riding for FHO Racing BMW, led the opening lap and set a blistering pace on the second tour, with a lap record in sight. However, disaster struck at Ginger Hall, where Hickman crashed out unhurt, relinquishing the lead to Todd.
Todd, running second at the time, took advantage of Hickman’s misfortune and Michael Dunlop’s retirement on lap one. The Englishman cruised to a commanding victory, unchallenged throughout the four-lap race.
Podium Finishers
- Davey Todd – 1st (TAS Racing BMW)
- Josh Brookes – 2nd (FHO BMW)
- Dean Harrison – 3rd (Honda)
Todd’s dominance was evident as he led on the road as well as corrected time, overtaking Harrison on lap three. Despite winning the Superbike TT last Sunday, Hickman struggled with his BMW until late drama struck Dunlop and Todd.
In the early stages of the four-lap Senior TT finale, Hickman made a strong start, leading Todd by 0.1 seconds through Glen Helen on lap one. Hickman extended his advantage to 1.5 seconds through Ballaugh and 2.6 seconds as he crossed the start/finish line to start lap two, clocking a 135.523mph effort from a standing start.
“Hickman was on pace to shatter his 136.358mph lap record on the second tour, leading by 8.3 seconds through the Ballaugh sector split.”
However, disaster struck at Ginger Hall, just before the Ramsey sector split, as Hickman crashed out. Fortunately, he was reported to be okay.
Todd seized the opportunity, finding himself 19.8 seconds in the lead over Brookes and eventually easing away to a winning margin of 39.084 seconds. Brookes comfortably secured second place, while Harrison concluded TT 2024 on the podium in third on the factory Honda.
Michael Dunlop, the all-time TT win leader, was in contention for his 30th victory. However, the fastest rider in last Sunday’s Superbike race struggled from the start, losing time and eventually retiring with a technical issue on the first lap at Hailwood Heights.
