FHO Racing BMW Motorrad to Skip 2024 North West 200, Focus on British Superbikes and Isle of Man TT
In a strategic move, FHO Racing BMW Motorrad has announced its decision to forgo the 2024 North West 200 road races in Northern Ireland. Instead, the team will concentrate its efforts on the British Superbike Championship and the prestigious Isle of Man TT.
Factors Behind the Decision
The decision, made by FHO’s owner and Team Principal Faye Ho, was influenced by a number of factors, including the 2024 racing calendar. The North West 200 is scheduled for May 6-11, overlapping with the second round of the British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park on May 4-6. Additionally, the third BSB round at Donington Park on May 17-19 leaves only eight days before the start of the TT fortnight on May 27.
“Of course, the decision not to take part in this year’s North West 200 was not an easy one to make; we are a Road Racing team and it’s an important event in the run up to the Isle of Man TT. However, after careful consideration and discussions with myself, Josh, Pete and the team, the decision not to take part was agreed, simply due to the logistics and the event being between BSB rounds, then straight to the TT.”
– Faye Ho, FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team Principal
Ho also cited “last year’s situation at the event” as a consideration in their decision-making process. In 2023, the FHO Racing bikes were disqualified from the North West 200 Superstock class for running carbon wheels, which were deemed illegal under Motor Cycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre) (MCUI) regulations, despite the bikes having passed scrutineering and qualified.
Peter Hickman to Compete with PHR Performance
Despite the team’s absence, FHO has agreed to allow Peter Hickman to compete at the 2024 North West 200 with his own PHR Performance team. Faye Ho expressed the team’s disappointment in missing the event, acknowledging the strong support they have received from the Irish fans, but ultimately prioritizing the team’s preparation for the British Superbikes and Isle of Man TT.
