Tragic Loss at the Isle of Man TT Races: Experienced Rider Raul Torras Martinez Killed in Supertwin Crash
Isle of Man, June 6, 2023 – The Isle of Man TT Races have been dealt a devastating blow with the tragic loss of Spanish rider Raul Torras Martinez. The 46-year-old, who had been competing at the prestigious event since 2017, was killed in an accident during the first Supertwin Race on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at the Alpine section of the 37.75-mile circuit on the final lap of the race. Torras, who hailed from Sant Hilari Sacalm, Spain, had been an experienced TT competitor, with a best result of 15th in last year’s Supertwin event.
Earlier in the day, Torras had set his fastest-ever lap of the TT Mountain Course during the Superstock Race, reaching an average speed of 125.470mph and securing a top-20 finish. This remarkable performance made him the fastest Spaniard to ever lap the challenging TT Course.
In a statement, the Isle of Man TT Races organizers expressed their deepest sympathies to Torras’ family, friends, and loved ones, acknowledging the tragic loss of a skilled and dedicated rider.
“Raul was an experienced TT competitor who made his debut in 2017, with a best result of 15th in last year’s Supertwin race,” the statement read. “He recorded his fastest ever lap of the TT Mountain Course earlier today in the Superstock Race, with a lap at an average speed of 125.470mph whilst securing a 20th-place finish. Raul was the fastest Spaniard ever to have lapped the TT Course.”
In total, Torras had competed in 21 TT races, earning a total of 18 Bronze Replicas for his performances.
The Isle of Man TT Races, known for their unforgiving nature, have once again been marred by tragedy. Last year’s event, the first since the COVID pandemic began in 2020, saw the loss of six competitors.
The road racing community mourns the passing of Raul Torras Martinez, a talented and passionate rider who leaves an indelible mark on the history of the iconic Isle of Man TT Races.
