2024 NG Road Racing Season Kicks Off at Iconic Oulton Park
The wait is finally over, and the 2024 NG Road Racing season is revving up to hit the tracks! The first stop on this seven-round circuit tour is the iconic Oulton Park, a venue steeped in history dating back to the 1940s when General Patton’s base for the Normandy Landings laid the foundation for the roads that would eventually become the track. Fast forward to 1953, and the Mid-Cheshire Motor Club hosted the first event on the former camp roads, marking the beginning of a journey that would see the track undergo numerous extensions, modifications, and changes in ownership before MSV acquired it in 2004 and brought it up to modern standards.
Exciting Mix of Racing Classes
As NG Road Racing returns to Oulton Park, fans can expect an exciting mix of racing classes catering to riders of all budgets and skill levels. These include:
- Suzuki Bandit Challenge and Ducati Desmo Due, providing thrilling action
- IMS 600 & HM Racing 600 Clubman classes, promising to be hotly contested, with an oversubscribed entry list ensuring that every second counts
- ACU 125 & 250 National Championship, showcasing the skills of former GP 2-stroke riders
- RE Performance Powerbike and Phoenix Open classes, hotly anticipated
Riders to Watch
Riders to watch include:
- George Edwards, who makes the step up from the Dan Cooper Motorsport-run Yamaha 600 to the Honda Fireblade, making him the man to beat in the Phoenix Open
- Ricky Elder, last year’s runner-up, who has a chance to take the top spot in the 600 class
After a grueling pre-season testing schedule, including the now-traditional Spanish track days, riders will be eager to get back on track, although some are already recovering from early-season spills. Last-minute engine rebuilds and pleas for parts are just another normal part of the racing season.
Behind-the-Scenes Experience
Keep an eye on the program for all the returning sponsors, as well as some new additions, who help keep the wheels racing. As always, the paddock is open to spectators, providing a unique behind-the-scenes experience amidst the 18-race program. All that’s left is for the weather gods to smile upon us, and we’ll be set for a thrilling start to the 2024 NG Road Racing season.
