The Manx Grand Prix to Host Tyre Tests for Sidecar Outfits Ahead of 2024 Isle of Man TT
In a significant development for the sidecar class at the prestigious Isle of Man TT, it has been announced that the Manx Grand Prix will host a series of tyre tests in preparation for the 2024 edition of the event. This move comes on the heels of Avon Tyres’ withdrawal from the sidecar category, effective from the end of 2023.
Avon’s decision to ease production as part of a broader change in their approach has left a void in the sidecar class, as the majority of competitors have relied on the brand’s rubber. Consequently, these sidecar outfits will need to switch to a new tyre manufacturer for the 2024 TT.
The replacement for Avon is set to be Hoosier Racing Tires, which has stepped up to develop a race tyre specifically for the sidecar class at the Isle of Man TT. This decision was made following discussions with some of the category’s “leading teams,” as per an official Isle of Man TT press release.
Tyre Tests at the Manx Grand Prix
The tyre tests at the Manx Grand Prix will provide a crucial opportunity for sidecar crews to evaluate the performance and safety of the new Hoosier tyres on the demanding Snaefell Course. Four sidecar outfits, including the renowned pairings of Ryan and Callum Crowe, Ben and Tom Birchall, and both Tim Reeves and Dave Molyneux, will participate in the test, completing a total of four laps with comprehensive inspections of the tyres.

The tyre tests at the Manx Grand Prix, scheduled for 20-28 August 2023, will play a vital role in ensuring the new Hoosier tyres are up to the rigours of the renowned TT Course, paving the way for a successful 2024 Isle of Man TT Races, set to take place from 27 May to 8 June 2024.
