Farewell to a Legend: Dave Molyneux Retires from TT Sidecar Racing
The curtains have drawn on Dave Molyneux’s illustrious TT sidecar racing career, which spanned an impressive 37 years, accumulating 17 wins and 31 podiums. At the ripe age of 60, the legendary racer has announced his retirement from the sport.
A Career of Innovation and Excellence
With a career that dates back to 1985, Molyneux has raced alongside multiple generations of competitors. In fact, he was already an established sidecar TT racing figure before 2024 Senior TT winner Davey Todd was even born. Throughout his remarkable tenure, Molyneux has been credited not only with an impressive tally of TT wins and podiums but also with driving innovation in the sidecar category.
“Dave is undoubtedly one of the greatest competitors the TT has ever seen. His determination to win has always been matched by his ability to innovate, and he has been at the forefront of sidecar racing for decades.” – Paul Phillips, Head of Motorsport at the Isle of Man TT
Leaving a Lasting Legacy
Beyond his racing accomplishments, Molyneux developed his own DMR sidecar chassis, with two circulating in this year’s event. Fittingly, he concluded his final TT race with a podium finish, taking third place in the second sidecar race alongside his passenger Jake Roberts on their Kel Properties DMR Kawasaki.
Phillips, who has known Molyneux throughout his life, also acknowledged the racer’s immense impact, stating, “He has been a massive help to me personally during my time working on the TT with advice and support, for which I will be forever grateful.” Phillips praised Molyneux’s ability to go out on a high note, scoring a podium finish at this year’s TT, and leaving behind a lasting legacy for future champions to aspire to.
