Michael Dunlop Smashes Lap Record in Practice
Michael Dunlop made headlines at the Isle of Man TT 2023 practice session by posting an unofficial lap record of 135.531mph. Although this feat won’t be counted in the official statistics since it was set in practice, it’s a testament to Dunlop’s exceptional skills.
Current Lap Records
- The outright lap record is held by Peter Hickman, achieving an impressive 136.358mph average lap speed in the 2022 Superstock race.
- The Superbike lap record stands at 135.415mph, set by Hickman in the 2023 Superbike race.
- The old outright lap record was 135.452mph, set on a Superbike in the Senior TT.
Supersport Class
- Michael Dunlop holds the fastest lap record at 130.403mph, set on a 600cc Honda in 2023.
- Interestingly, this pace is comparable to the top Superbike laps from 2007, when John McGuinness achieved the first-ever 130mph effort.
- Peter Hickman also breached the 130mph barrier in the Supersport class, clocking 130.2mph in 2023.
Superstock Class
- The current lap record stands at 136.358mph, set by Peter Hickman in 2023, which also happens to be the outright lap record.
- The Superstock class has seen significant performance improvements over the years.
Supertwin Class
- The current lap record is 122.750mph, set by Michael Dunlop on a 650cc Paton in 2018.
- Dunlop also set an unofficial new lap record in practice for the Supertwins in 2023, achieving 123.474mph.
Sidecar Class
- The Birchall brothers have been dominating the Sidecar class, having won 12 times and holding the lap record at 119.250mph prior to 2023.
- During the opening Sidecar race of the 2023 TT, the Birchalls set a new all-time lap record of 120.357mph, which they further improved to 120.645mph in the second Sidecar race.
Other Records
- Glenn Irwin holds the record for the fastest newcomer at the TT, achieving a 129.85mph lap in 2022.
- The fastest female lap record at the TT belongs to Jenny Tinmouth, who posted a 119.945mph lap in 2010 on a Honda CBR1000RR.
- The electric lap record at the TT is an impressive 121.824mph lap set by Michael Rutter in 2018 on a Mugen.
