Ian Hutchinson Announces Sensational Comeback to Road Racing
In a thrilling return to the world of road racing, Ian Hutchinson has announced his return to Clive Padgetts’ squad for the 2024 season, marking a reunion that promises to bring excitement to the sportives 2023 calendar.
Hutchinson’s journey back to the track was not without its challenges, as he was forced to sit out last year’s TT following a stroke while cycling in Spain in March 2022. According to ACU regulations, Hutchinson’s racing license was suspended for 12 months as he recovered from the stroke. The Northern Irish outfit, TAS Racing, also opted to sit out the TT altogether following Hutchinson’s withdrawal.
“I’m really pleased to be back with Clive and the team. I think that the way that I work and the team works just fits right. Clive puts together a bike you know you can get on and ride fast straightaway.”
Hutchinson’s partnership with Padgetts Racing in 2010 was nothing short of historic, as he became the first rider to win five races in a week at the TT. Although a horrific leg injury in a British Championship crash at Silverstone later that year set his career back, he went on to win seven more TTs, adding to his tally of nine between 2007 and 2017.
Hutchinson emphasized the importance of getting quality laps under his belt, saying, “With injuries, COVID, and missing last year, I don’t feel as though I’ve had a good run at the TT since 2017, and so it’s ideal to be with the team that can let me get the laps which is what I need.”
The road racing legend will pilot Honda machinery in the Superbike, Superstock, and Supersport classes at the TT 2024. Although his teammates for the season are yet to be confirmed, Cummins is rumored to remain with Padgetts for another year.
Padgett echoed Hutchinson’s enthusiasm, saying, “We’re absolutely delighted to have Ian back into the Padgett’s racing family. We’ve a long, enjoyable, and highly successful relationship that goes back many, many years, and it’s an honour to be back working together again across all the classes.”
Road Racing Fans Rejoice
As Hutchinson gears up for the new season, fans of road racing, sportives 2023, and cycling time trials can expect to see him back in top form, driven by his determination and passion for the sport.
