Unveiling Ferrari’s Substantial Upgrades for Upcoming Races
Ferrari has unveiled a comprehensive update package for its SF-24 Formula 1 car as the team prepares for the upcoming European leg of the 2023 season. The team did so to ensure it had enough time if there were teething problems for what is quite a substantial change, not only to the aerodynamic performance of the car but also to how the power unit and ancillaries are cooled.
The most notable change is the adoption of an overbite sidepod inlet arrangement, which follows a similar design philosophy to that of Red Bull. This has resulted in the discontinuation of the outlet beside the cockpit and halo, with the vanes also being altered as a consequence. The change from an underbite to an overbite has also led to the height of the sidepod’s undercut being adjusted, providing more room to capture the airflow as it moves down and around the bodywork.
Aerodynamic and Cooling Modifications
Additionally, the engine cover and cooling outlets have been refreshed, with a similar single but larger outlet to the one used in Japan deployed as part of the package tested in Fiorano. The team has also made changes to the floor, with the scrolled forward section of the edge wing and the strakes being altered to improve performance.
The rear wing has also undergone modifications, with adjustments made to both the tip section and the endplate cutout to increase the upper flap’s wingspan and optimize the wing’s efficiency.
Ferrari’s Strategic Approach
These substantial updates from Ferrari demonstrate the team’s commitment to continuously improving the performance of the SF-24 as the season progresses. The team’s decision to introduce these changes during the break between the sprint events and the return to Europe suggests a strategic approach, allowing them to assess the impact of the updates and make any necessary tweaks before the competitive sessions.
“Ferrari’s pursuit of performance gains will be closely watched by cycling enthusiasts and fans alike as the team aims to maintain its competitiveness in the road racing news, cycling sportives 2023, and cycling time trials throughout the remainder of the season.”
