One week after the world cyclocross championships, the action continued this past weekend with the final event of the Superprestige series in Middelkerke on Saturday and the second-to-last round of the X2O Trofee in Lille on Sunday.
Superprestige Noordzeecross in Middelkerke
In the women’s race at the Superprestige Noordzeecross in Middelkerke, Lucinda Brand (Baloise Trek Lions) dominated the muddy conditions, soloing to victory and crossing the finish line 1:15 ahead of second-placed Laura Verdonschot. Ceylin Alvarado (Alpecin-Deceuninck) rounded out the podium in third. Brand took control from the start, and a small mistake by Alvarado was all she needed to build a sizeable gap. Alvarado won the final Superprestige classification for the third time in her career.
In the men’s race, Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) claimed his 49th cyclocross victory, finishing ahead of teammate Michael Vanthourenhout and Joris Nieuwenhuis (Baloise Trek Lions). Iserbyt made his move on the sixth lap, catching and passing riders until he connected with and dropped Nieuwenhuis. Vanthourenhout, the European champion, secured second place.
X2O Trofee Lille – Krawatencross
At the X2O Trofee Lille – Krawatencross, world champion Fem van Empel (Visma-Lease a Bike) continued her dominant season with her 19th victory. She soloed to the win, with Lucinda Brand finishing second and Laura Verdonschot third. In the men’s race, Niels Vandeputte (Alpecin-Deceuninck) claimed his first UCI C1 cyclocross victory, beating Joris Nieuwenhuis and Joran Wyseure. X2O Trofee leader Lars van der Haar (Baloise Trek Lions) finished fourth.
