TT 2024: Crowe Brothers Edge Closer to TT Victory with Maiden Win
In the highly anticipated Sidecar class of TT 2024, the Crowe brothers, Ryan and Callum, edged closer to TT Victory success, building on their exceptional practice week pace. As favourites for victory, they demonstrated their supreme speed in the first race on Saturday evening, setting off second on the road.
Dominant Performance Secures Maiden TT Win
The Crowes took the lead into Glen Helen on the opening lap of three, boasting an advantage of 6.2 seconds, and consistently built on their lead throughout the duration. With a best lap of 119.8mph on the second tour, they faced no threats, cruising to a maiden TT Win.
This monumental achievement marks the first victory for the Crowe family since 2008, when their father Nick Crowe claimed his fifth TT win.
Nick suffered a serious injury in a crash at the TT in 2009, making this win all the more significant.
Reigning Champion Suffers Setback
Coming into the first Sidecar race of TT 2024, the spotlight shone on reigning class champion Ben Birchall, competing without brother Tom Birchall as a passenger following his retirement this year, and partner Kevin Rousseau. Unfortunately, they suffered a crash at the Mountain Box section in practice on Friday and, although they walked away unharmed, their outfit was not ready in time for the first Sidecar race.
Notable Finishes
- The FHO Racing pairing of Peter Founds and Jevan Walmsley secured second place in Sidecar race one, trailing by 26.894 seconds.
- Meanwhile, the Team Founds outfit of Alan Founds and newcomer passenger Rhys Gibbons clinched third place.
Impressive Debut and Record-Breaking Performance
- Todd Ellis/Emmanuelle Clement, world champions in Sidecar racing, made their TT debut with a remarkable seventh-place finish, becoming the fastest newcomers in the class.
Emmanuelle Clement etched her name in history, setting the fastest ever lap by a female Sidecar competitor at 113.539mph.
The Significance of the Win
The Crowes’ TT Victory marks the first win for a Manx competitor in the Sidecar class since Dave Molyneux in 2014. By securing this triumph, the brothers demonstrated their prowess in the world of Sidecar Racing Events, cementing their position as top contenders in this highly competitive field.
