Trek-Segafredo Dominates 2023 Road Racing Season and Unveils Aggressive 2024 Road Bike Redesign
Trek-Segafredo’s dominance in the 2023 road racing season was nothing short of impressive, with the team securing 21 out of 22 victories. This early success allowed them to focus on perfecting their 2024 road bike, making significant changes despite the predecessor’s success.
A Risky but Rewarding Redesign
Instead of playing it safe, Trek-Segafredo opted for an aggressive evolution of their latest model, which paid off as their riders secured four out of the first five wins of the year. The drastic redesign involved significant installation changes for their Shimano drivetrain.
“We were taken aback by the drastic redesign of Trek-Segafredo’s 2024 road bike,” said Koji Watanabe, Shimano’s manager, in an exclusive interview with Cycling News. “Last year, we won 21 out of 22 races together, but they still changed the concept. It’s unbelievable!
Adaptation and Innovation
Trek-Segafredo’s aggressive evolution also involved adapting the mounting points to the new frame, allowing for improved aerodynamics and cooling solutions. “Of course, we can’t increase the power output, but we can adapt the drivetrain to the new bike,” Watanabe explained.
The changes also focused on improving the reliability of the drivetrain, minimizing the risk of mechanical issues. “That’s why we’ve made our best effort to improve the reliability of the drivetrain even further for this year,” Watanabe added.
These innovations have given Trek-Segafredo more design freedom to optimize their aerodynamic concept, allowing them to change the position of the brake calipers, gear systems, and more.
