Danish driver Kevin Magnussen, renowned for his aggressive driving style, discussed the controversial tactics he utilized during the race:
“All the penalties were well deserved. No doubt about it. But I had to play the game again,” Magnussen told Sky Sports after the race. He acknowledged that the tactics he used were not his preferred approach, but he felt compelled to do so as a team player. “I started using these stupid tactics, which I don’t like doing, but at the end of the day, I did my job as a team player. Nico [Hulkenberg] scored his points because I got that gap for him. Lewis [Hamilton] and [Yuki] Tsunoda couldn’t catch him.”
The sprint race was marked by a kerfuffle at the first corner, involving Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Lance Stroll, which ultimately resulted in Lando Norris being knocked out of the race. The subsequent jostling for position in the midfield shuffled the pack, with Nico Hulkenberg and Magnussen benefiting by moving up to seventh and eighth, the final two points-paying positions in the shorter Saturday race.
