Road Racing News: Cycling Teams Unveil New Parts Ahead of European Season Opener
The start of the European road racing season is a prime opportunity for cycling teams to introduce their latest technical updates, as it takes place two months into the year and logistically allows for easier transportation of new components.
Leading the Pack in Update Submissions
Red Bull has brought a substantial package of revisions to the RB20 bike that has carried Max Verstappen to 4 victories so far this season. The most crucial change is to the floor, where Red Bull has lowered the upper surface to improve airflow and increase downforce levels. They have also reprofiled the front edge of the floor to generate more grip.
At the front of the bike, an all-new Red Bull front wing features a repositioned leading edge on the endplate for better yaw stability through corners. The third and fourth flaps have also been lengthened to produce more downforce. To accommodate these wing changes, Red Bull has modified the nose box and camera fairings.
Towards the rear, the bodywork around the wheel wells has been revised for improved cooling, while the winglets at the brake duct exits have been redesigned for enhanced efficiency.
Restoring the Performance Advantage
This Red Bull upgrade follows the major aero package debuted by McLaren in Miami, which helped propel Lando Norris to his maiden victory. Attention now turns to whether Red Bull’s latest updates can restore their previous performance advantage and re-establish their dominance as the European road racing season kicks into high gear.
The Development Race Continues
Elsewhere, Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Williams are also bringing significant technical upgrades to the Imola event, ranging from revised floors and wings to lighter components. The development race is on as teams seek to optimize their road racing machines for the upcoming events.
